Objective
- A core group of faculty members at IIT Madras with relevant expertise in Battery R&D are proposing the creation of a new centre for battery validation, standardization, benchmarking and performance evaluation relevant for Indian tropical environmental conditions
Description
- As India's Vision 2030 targets 30% electrification of the automobile sector, batteries manufactured locally or imported from international suppliers are rarely evaluated under India's tropical environmental and duty-cycle conditions. This IIT Madras initiative addresses this gap by establishing a dedicated centre for battery validation, standardization, benchmarking, and performance evaluation under tropical conditions ? spanning two phases from preliminary LIB testing and equipment commissioning to advanced NIB testing, duty-cycle assessment, and training programmes ? strengthening India's clean-mobility ecosystem and EV battery reliability
Impact
- Phase 1: Establishment of Validation Center for Tropical Batteries, Procurement and commissioning of relevant equipment, Hiring of skilled manpower and dedicated technical staff, Preliminary testing of procured LIB from commercial suppliers, Delivery of preliminary test report under tropical battery conditions, Phase 2: Procurement and commissioning of upgradation equipment, Testing of procured LIB and NIB under tropical conditions, Duty Cycle Testing, Delivery, Establishing training programmes
