Establishment of Center for Cancer Nanomedicine & Translational Health
Principal Investigator
Prof. Sivakumar Vijayaraghavalu
Objective
- The proposed Center for Cancer Nanomedicine and Translational Health at IIT Madras will pioneer affordable, scalable nanomedicine solutions for drug-resistant and metastatic cancers, while also advancing regenerative medicine, microneedle-based delivery, and nanotoxicology
Description
- Cancer ? a leading health crisis in India driving premature mortality and catastrophic costs across breast, cervical, oral, lung, and prostate cancers ? demands precision solutions that maximize efficacy while minimizing toxicity. This IIT Madras Centre for Cancer Nanomedicine and Translational Health pioneers affordable, scalable nanomedicine therapies for drug-resistant and metastatic cancers, integrating microneedle-based delivery, regenerative medicine, and nanotoxicology to reduce drug dosage, hospital admissions, and treatment toxicity ? improving survival, quality of life, and training a skilled nanomedicine workforce for sustainable healthcare innovation.
Impact
- Affordable, accessible nanomedicine therapies for drug-resistant and metastatic cancers reducing late-stage disease burden, Lower treatment costs by reducing drug dosage and hospital admissions while maintaining or improving efficacy, Improved survival and quality of life through targeted less toxic therapies, Regenerative therapies for orthopedic injuries and chronic wounds reducing disability and recovery time, Creation of trained nanomedicine professionals ensuring sustainability
