Objective

  • The Centre will conduct fundamental research to study the mechanisms of action of the most used Herbo-mineral Siddha nanoformulations for non-communicable diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and Anemia

Description

  • With a 2500-year history, traditional Siddha medicine ? sharing deep similarities with Traditional Chinese Medicine ? lacks a dedicated fundamental research centre in India. This IIT Madras initiative addresses this gap by establishing a Centre of Excellence that bridges traditional Siddha practices with modern science, studying mechanisms of action of herbo-mineral nanoformulations and Varmam techniques for non-communicable diseases including Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and Anemia ? significantly advancing translational research and evidence-based application of Siddha medicine.

Impact

  • Establishing this Research Center will bridge traditional Siddha medical practices with modern scientific research, By focusing on the mechanisms of action of Siddha formulations and Varmam techniques, the center will contribute significantly to the understanding and application of Siddha medicine in addressing major health challenges
