Objective

  • The centre's objectives are to research new affordable housing technologies and develop tools for cost-efficient construction, Additionally, it aims to create templates for economic evaluation and offer training, design, and project management services in collaboration with industry partners

Description

  • This IIT Madras Centre for Low-Cost Housing and Sustainability ? housed in the Infrastructure Systems Lab with dedicated staff ? researches affordable housing technologies with an initial focus on concrete 3D printing and automated steel module construction. By developing cost-efficient construction tools, economic evaluation templates, and sustainable materials research, while conducting tech demonstrations and stakeholder education events in collaboration with industry partners, the centre makes quality housing more accessible to underserved communities and accelerates affordable, climate-resilient construction innovation across India.
