CO2 capture technology and capability development
Principal Investigator
Prof. Satyanarayanan Seshadri
Objective
- Support to analytical instrumentation capability at the Energy Centre for CCUS
Description
- Under support from the IoE framework, the Energy Centre is developing the platform to investigate CO2 capture from rich and lean sources at a 10 kg/hr capacity. This platform will be leveraged to explore multiple approaches to CO2 capture, storage and utilisation, The "Dual Modality System" is a combination of two non-invasive imaging techniques ? Electrical Resistance Tomography and Electrical Capacitance Tomography to visualize two phase and three phase systems. With this imaging technique, information of different phases in a multiphase system, such as the volume fraction of all the phases, can be extracted at a temporal resolution up to 1000 fps
Impact
- Unlike green hydrogen generation, CCUS is early in technology development and as a country and institution, we have the ability to leap frog the technology development and achieve prominence. Facilities such as these will be a core contributor in enabling the same.
