Objective
- The primary objective of the "Adopt a District for Safer Roads" project is to empower District administration to reduce road crash fatalities and injuries in high-burden districts across India by deploying Data Driven Hyperlocal Intervention (DDHI) framework.
Description
- Every year, around 1,68,000 people die due to road accidents in India, resulting in significant social and economic costs. Despite existing measures, there is a critical need for targeted, data-driven solutions that address district-level road safety challenges by integrating human factors (empathy) with structured frameworks. To enable this, IIT Madras has implemented iRAD (eDAR), a comprehensive national database for road accidents, deployed across all 36 states and union territories.
Impact
- Reduced Fatalities and Severity., Data-Driven Governance and Capacity Building., Scalable Model., Long-Term Societal Benefit: Safer districts enable safe mobility, reduce the economic burden of accidents and build stakeholder trust in the public infrastructure.
