Creating a low cost product to treat baby jaundice (Billisolve Proposal)
Principal Investigator
Prof. Ramanathan
Objective
- The objective of this project is to develop a low-cost, portable, and effective phototherapy system to treat neonatal jaundice, ultimately translating this technology into a commercially viable product. Specific objectives include optimizing the LED array, electronics, fabric integration, and validating its effectiveness through a pilot study.
Description
- Develop an optimized milli-LED array for uniform irradiance distribution required for jaundice treatment., Optimize electronics to minimize power consumption and heating while maintaining treatment effectiveness., Incorporate the milli-LED array onto conformable fabrics for comfort and portability., Validate the technology's effectiveness through a pilot study involving neonates.
Impact
- The project will benefit infants in both rural and urban areas, with a focus on rural populations initially. It addresses the critical issue of neonatal jaundice treatment by providing an affordable, portable solution that can run on power banks, improving access to care and reducing the risk of long-term neurological damage.
