Objective

• This project aims to design and develop a durable, lightweight, and cost-effective foldable wheel for wheelchairs. The wheel will allow for easy folding and unfolding without compromising strength, stability, or safety.

Description

• Wheelchair users often face challenges with transportation and storage due to the fixed size of standard wheels. A foldable wheel design can significantly enhance portability, making it easier to carry and store the wheelchair in compact spaces such as auto-rickshaws, cars, airplanes, and other public transport. While foldable wheels exist in premium markets, they remain expensive and inaccessible in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
