Project SmartFR-Smart Phone Based First Responder Training for Road Accidents

Objective

• Develop a smartphone application, SmartFR, to provide training in first response for road accidents, focusing on recognizing injury/trauma emergencies, activating EMS services, and delivering initial first aid care. Utilize mobile phone communication, gaming, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) technology to engage and educate the masses, especially young individuals, in affordable first responder training.

Description

• Problem Statement: Road traffic accidents result in a significant number of deaths and injuries, especially among young people. Immediate first response and first aid can save lives and mitigate adverse consequences, but providing adequate training to the masses, especially the youth, is a challenge., The Initiative: The project, led by IIT Madras pCoE in Virtual Reality and Haptics, aims to develop the SmartFR App. This app will leverage mobile technology, gaming, VR, and AR to provide training on responding to trauma emergencies. It will cover essential do's and don'ts in case of road accidents.

• The SmartFR Initiative is expected to have a profound societal impact, including: Reducing mortality and disability resulting from road accidents., Easing the financial burden on individuals, families, and healthcare systems., Improving the economic status of the state by reducing healthcare costs and increasing productivity., Providing immediate relief to distressed victims and potentially preventing many preventable deaths.
