Technology development for enhancement of safety in two wheelers

Objective

• The objective of the Project is to develop appropriate Technologies for implementation to enhance Safety in Two wheelers and reduce the alarming number of fatalities and injuries due to road accidents.

Description

• Road accidents are a serious menace in the country with the Road traffic injuries being among the major causes of death in India. In the calendar year 2022, it has been reported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Govt of India, that there were 4,61,312 incidents of road accidents, which claimed 1,68,491 lives and caused injuries to 4,43,366 persons., Two-wheelers constitute close to 80% of the vehicle units by sales and on road traffic in India., The death by two wheelers is increasing year on year in comparison to cars, lorries, auto rickshaws and buses. Therefore, the safety aspect of two-wheelers is a social concern which needs careful examination for suitable technological solutions as a priority.

Impact

• The outcome of the project is to evolve technological solutions to improve safety, which can help to avoid / minimize the number of accidents, resultant injuries and fatalities by atleast 30 %., Technologies such as Motorcycle Alert Systems, Stability Systems, Optimized Curve braking, and other innovative solutions are poised to improve safety.
