Time commitment in work context
Principal Investigator
Prof. Lata Dyaram
Objective
- This study aims to investigate how employees' subjective experiences of time influence their time commitment at work, particularly in relation to externally imposed deadlines and schedules.
Description
- The allocation and management of time resources is a critical organizational issue rather than merely an individual concern., Organizations operate with an objective view of time, under the assumption that all employees experience time uniformly., However, individuals within these organizations bring their own mental time to the workplace, and experience time in a fundamentally different way - subjectively.
Impact
- By understanding these dynamics, organizations can become more 'temporally intelligent' i.e. better at balancing diverse individual time perceptions with organizational needs., By examining various factors (chronos and kairos) that influence how employees commit their time to a task or work activity, organizations can create work environments that better balance individual scheduling preferences with business requirements, avoiding organizations' expectation that workers should always be available.
