Objective
- To find suitable applications for coir fibre and rubberised coir in sound absorption, To examine and evaluate treatment methods for coir's better sound absorption and useful life
Description
- Coir fibres offer a natural alternative to synthetic materials, with strong potential for sound absorption in public spaces such as highways, railway stations, and bus stands. This IIT Madras initiative examines and evaluates treatment methods for coir and rubberised coir to enhance acoustic performance and useful life, while reducing waste and pollution. By creating economic value from coir husk and ceasing agricultural waste burning, the project improves community quality of life through sustainable, India-native materials.
Impact
- Use of natural Indian materials, Ceasing burning of agricultural waste, Creating economic value for coir husk, Reducing air and noise pollution
