Drone Applications in Precision Agriculture, Environmental Monitoring & Smart Aquaculture
Principal Investigator
Prof. Indumathi Manivannan Nambi
Objective
- This proposal seeks funding to recruit full-time skilled drone pilots and cover other operational costs to keep these drones in operation.
Description
- As global demand for food security, environmental sustainability, and climate change mitigation intensifies, this IIT Madras CSR-driven project integrates cutting-edge technologies ? precision monitoring, climate-smart resource use, and UAV-enabled operations ? to revolutionize agriculture. With drone technology emerging as a transformative tool, and farmers across Chennai districts increasingly seeking drone-based spraying and seeding solutions, the project empowers rural communities with higher yields, reduced input costs, and resilient farming systems, while offering CSR partners a meaningful role in scaling these innovations.
Impact
- The primary beneficiaries of the proposed project include farmers, who will benefit from UAV-enabled precision farming technologies. This will lead to efficient crop monitoring,
- input application, reduced labor, optimized resource use, and
- improved yields. Environmental monitoring authorities will gain accurate and
- cost-effective data on methane emissions from wetlands and landfills, aiding in climate change assessment and mitigation.
