Centre of Excellence in Disease Mechanotherapy

Centre of Excellence in disease mechanotherapy

Centre of Excellence in disease mechanotherapy

Principal Investigator

Prof. Shantanu Pradhan

Objective

  • There is no coordinated or focused efforts for developing an established program or research center for mechanobiology research for healthcare applications. Hence, there is tremendous need and opportunity for establishing a Centre of Excellence on Disease Mechanotherapy.

Description

  • The human body is a complex system of cells, tissues, biomolecules, and other bioactive units working synchronously to maintain proper health and function. These complex interactions are driven by a range of biochemical processes. In addition to biochemical signaling, biophysical and mechanical signaling also play an important role in human physiology. These physical and mechanical signaling integrate with the biochemical and biological signaling processes and are collectively termed as 'mechanobiology'.

Impact

  • Unlock new avenues for therapeutic development for disease prevention and treatment., Reduced dependency on and reduced side effects of conventional molecular therapeutics and treatment approaches., Promotion of physical activity, exercise, and improved lifestyle habits., Establishment of leading national level center for mechanobiology research., Collaboration with local health/medical ecosystem., Technical training of highly skilled labor force.
