Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Cooling System
Principal Investigator
Prof. G Venkataratinam
Objective
- Assist SME/MSMEs in designing, making, and testing cooling systems, Establish cost-effective industrial-grade facilities for Indian enterprises to design, produce, and test cooling equipment, Conduct R&D on Refrigeration and Air conditioning systems to reduce power consumption by 20% in three years, with ongoing reductions
Description
- Through industry consortium formation, SME engagement, and advanced equipment ? including psychrometric rooms, anechoic chambers, and heat exchanger test stands ? this IIT Madras initiative conducts targeted R&D on refrigerant mixtures, noise reduction, and AC efficiency to reduce power consumption by 20% within three years. By assisting SMEs/MSMEs in designing, producing, and testing cooling systems, and facilitating tech transfer for 30% more efficient products, the project builds a roadmap toward mainstream, export-ready enterprises ? supporting India's transition to low-carbon, environmentally responsible cooling technologies.
Impact
- Roadmap to mainstream and export-ready SMEs/MSMEs in cooling, Develop ACs 10% more efficient, Collaborate with at least 20 SMEs, tech transfer for 30% efficient products, workshops
