CoE in cyber security
Principal Investigator
Prof. Mathanan Kailas
Objective
- Evolve CyStar, IIT Madras's Centre for Cybersecurity, Trust & Reliability, into a Centre of Excellence anchoring research, talent development, and industry and government partnership through shared infrastructure and innovation, Analyse the readiness of present systems against the threat of quantum computers and propose a plan for graceful migration to post-quantum security, Use AI to reason over low-level code and detect cryptographic patterns for reverse engineering and cryptographic analysis, Support intra- and inter-blockchain investigations through cross-chain analytics to trace and monitor digital-asset movements, Produce security-critical systems code with machine-checked proofs of functional correctness so subversion is excluded by construction
Description
- The project will evolve CyStar, the IIT Madras Centre for Cybersecurity, Trust & Reliability, into a Centre of Excellence in Cybersecurity. Four faculty-led projects spanning post-quantum cryptography migration, AI-driven reverse engineering of embedded cryptographic systems, cross-chain crypto-forensics, and machine-checked secure systems code will anchor research, talent development, and industry and government partnership to defend India's national critical infrastructure.
Impact
- Fundamental and applied research across cryptography, hardware, systems and blockchain translated into deployable security tooling for critical sectors, Training of researchers, engineers and sector practitioners to defend critical infrastructure at national scale through certified programmes and shared labs, expanding from Power and BFSI to every classified sector, A post-quantum readiness report with upgrade recommendations, open-source tools and hardware frameworks, a prototype multi-chain crypto-forensics toolkit with standardized SOPs for cryptocurrency investigation and seizure, and a verified open-source toolchain, High-impact publications, industry workshops and training programs, and talent development for students and researchers
