Center for Medical Imaging Technologies -for breast cancer screening
Principal Investigator
Prof. Arun K. Thittai
Objective
- To develop a fully functional prototype ultrasound scanner, along with an integrated robotic arm, that is portable and can be used for reliable breast screening applications in a rural setting by a frontline health worker
Description
- This IIT Madras initiative develops a portable, affordable ultrasound scanner integrated with a robotic arm, designed for reliable breast screening in rural settings by minimally trained frontline healthcare workers. By emphasizing indigenous technology, user-friendly design, and worker safety, the project transitions diagnostic services to rural PHCs and mobile units ? expanding access beyond regular hospitals and delivering impactful early screening capabilities to underserved communities across India
Impact
- Develop affordable, portable medical scanners to expand beyond regular hospitals, These scanners will enable minimally trained frontline healthcare workers to operate rural health initiatives
