Empowering Engineering Degree and Diploma Holders in Nondestructuve testing -NDT On Wheels
Principal Investigator
Prof. Krishnan Balasubramanian
Objective
- The objective of the project will be to increase awareness of job opportunities through a campaign across engineering degree and diploma granting institutions in the field of NDT and to create new opportunities for these young aspirants
Description
- With over 15 lakh engineers graduating annually in India and less than 50% found employable, this IIT Madras NDT on Wheels initiative addresses the skill gap by increasing awareness of Nondestructive Testing ? a field using ultrasound, radiation, and heat diffusion to probe engineered materials, similar to medical diagnostics ? across engineering and diploma institutions. Through mobile training labs and hands-on upskilling campaigns, the project aims to enable approximately 1,000 young students to find employment or improve their employability, with potential to scale nationally.
Impact
- The impact on society is envisaged by this project as a value-added mechanism of improving the employability of educated youth, The project is expected to enable about 1000 young students to find employment or improve their employment profile through upskilling, This project can be expanded to a much larger program throughout the country
