Principal Investigator
Prof. Shreesh Chaudhary
Objective
- This project aims to extend the effort for an additional three years. During this phase, we will leverage the internet and computers to introduce stories, songs, games, and films to these classes. Over three years, we intend to equip children aged eight to 15 with a vocabulary of up to 3,000 basic English words. They should be able to read, write, and understand simple sentences in English and Hindi. This initiative not only expands their linguistic horizons but also fosters computer literacy among children and advanced proficiency among local youth serving as volunteer teachers.
Description
- Languages Taught: English, Hindi, Number of Students: Approximately 150 primary and middle school students, Classes: Grades Three to Eight, Location: Pindaruch, Bihar, PIN: 847 306, Volunteer Teachers: 10, Establish a 3,000-word English vocabulary with reading, writing, and comprehension capabilities in simple sentences. Additionally, promote basic computer literacy among children and advanced proficiency among local volunteer teachers.
Impact
- The project significantly improved the educational landscape by increasing annual contact hours between students and teachers from fewer than 200 hours to nearly 450 hours. Furthermore, it elevated reading proficiency among children in English and Hindi/Tamil from 30% to over 80%. These improvements contributed to enhanced self-dignity and confidence among the students.
