Objective

  • The objective of the Project will be to increase the awareness of the job opportunities through a campaign across the engineering degree and diploma granting institutions in the field of NDT and to create new opportunities for these young aspirants, Reaching out to these students through an NDT on Wheels program and create excitement and aspirations, Develop promotional videos and literature in the broad theme of NDT is Exciting to attract students to the opportunities, Develop an Experiential NDT Platform for providing the students with experiential learnings

Description

  • Over 12 lakh engineers and a similar number of diploma holders graduate in India each year, yet fewer than 50% are found employable. The Centre for Nondestructive Evaluation at IIT Madras and the Indian Society for Nondestructive Testing will jointly run NDT on Wheels, a multi-media equipped vehicle carrying NDT is Exciting content and an Experiential NDT Platform to over 100 colleges, reaching 10,000+ students in three years and converting 1,000+ into candidates trained for NDT certification and improved employability.

Impact

  • The impact on society is envisaged as a value-added mechanism of improving the employability of educated youth of the country, The awareness creation followed by upskilling will result in mitigating some of the potentially detrimental social challenges that may be caused by the disappointment of unmet expectations of guaranteed employment, The project is expected to enable about 1000 young students to find employment or improve their employment profile through the upskilling as proposed, The aim will be to take NDT on Wheels to over 100 colleges and impact 10,000+ students across India over the next 3 years, Industries in India who need qualified NDT certifiers will immensely benefit from the availability of trained personnel, thereby making them more competitive, This pilot project can be expanded to a much larger program throughout the country once this model is proven, The model can be extended to other manufacturing technologies, thereby increasing the impact of this project through follow-up projects
