Development of an absorption heat transformer (AHT) for waste heat recovery and medium temperature steam generation
Principal Investigator
Prof. Satyanarayana Seshadri
Objective
- The primary goal of the proposed project is to design, develop, and optimize Absorption Heat Transformer (AHT) to upgrade low-grade waste heat (110-120?C) into medium-quality steam (160-180?C) for industrial reuse.
Description
- India's industrial sector, the largest energy consumer in the country, is heavily dependent on fossil fuels, contributing significantly to carbon emissions. Decarbonizing this sector is essential to meet India's 2047 net-zero targets, Therefore, this project proposes the investigation of an Absorption Heat Transformer (AHT) system to upgrade this waste heat to reusable medium-temperature steam, thereby reducing primary energy demand.
Impact
- This research will facilitate the effective utilization of low-grade waste heat across industries, Absorption Heat Transformer (AHT) prototype will be developed, alongside a numerical model to predict its performance under various conditions, These advancements will contribute significantly to India's Net Zero goals by enhancing industrial energy efficiency, The findings will be communicated through high-impact journal publications and presentations.
