Tunable hydrocarbons synthesis by CO2 hydrogenation
Principal Investigator
Prof. Jithin John Varghese
Objective
- This proposal intends to capitalize on the ongoing activities and expertise in the PIs' groups to develop in-house process systems for catalytic conversion of CO2 to fuels of choice, depending on the availability of feedstock and site requirements.
Description
- With rapidly increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, global efforts are accelerating the development and deployment of technologies that avoid or minimize carbon emissions, Utilizing captured CO2 as a feedstock is critical to enable circularity in the energy/ fuels/ chemicals sectors, While catalytic conversion of CO2 to fuels is intensely researched, most demonstrations are at the lower Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs). The PIs of this project have various ongoing research projects in catalytic conversion of CO2 into fuels and other chemicals.
Impact
- Demonstrator for different hydrocarbons synthesis from CO2 and hydrogen, In-house efficient catalysts for the production of different hydrocarbons from CO2 and hydrogen, Process optimization and transition to higher TRLs, Trained personnel, The demonstration unit can also be used for public awareness, Preliminary assessment of the potential for process development for on-site CO2-based fuel production.
