Demonstration of Single-Pass CO2 conversion in industrial exhaust gas to ethanol
Principal Investigator
Prof. Sagar Sourav
Objective
- The primary objective of this proposal is to demonstrate an in-house catalytic system and process for CO2 hydrogenation to ethanol, utilizing steam as a sustainable alternative to conventional H2 sources.
Description
- Rising atmospheric CO2 levels, exceeding 100 ppm in the last century, highlight the urgent need for mitigation strategies. Catalytic CO2 hydrogenation offers a promising solution, converting CO2 into valuable fuels like ethanol, This project proposes an innovative demonstration process for direct CO2-to-ethanol conversion using steam.
Impact
- Scale-up to a reactor 10x larger than the lab scale, Demonstration of a stable catalyst capable of continuous operation, Targeting 1 L/day ethanol production, Showcasing ethanol production with efficient in-house catalysts, Training manpower, Assessing ethanol production, Advancing carbon-neutral ethanol production aligned with national and sustainability goals.
