Experimental evaluation on performance of battery pack and BMS
Principal Investigator
Prof. Jayaganthan
Objective
- The proposed work focuses on the experimental evaluation of the performance of Lithium-ion battery packs and their associated Battery Management Systems (BMS), with an emphasis on key parameters such as State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), thermal management, and cell balancing.
Description
- Energy storage systems, particularly those based on Lithium-ion batteries, are integral to various applications such as mobile communication towers, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and stationary power storage. These systems depend on an effective Battery Management System (BMS) to monitor and regulate battery performance, ensuring optimal functioning and safety, The BMS plays a critical role in managing parameters like State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), voltage levels, temperature, and charge/discharge cycles, which are crucial for maintaining the longevity and reliability of the battery. Additionally, the BMS ensures cell balancing, which is essential to maintain uniform voltage across all cells in the battery pack,
Impact
- The proposed study will utilize advanced testing equipment such as Battery Pack Testers, BMS Testers, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) simulation to conduct thorough assessments of both the battery and BMS under simulated operational environments.
