Diesel generator equivalent device with zero emission green hydrogen fuel
Principal Investigator
Prof. Aravind Kumar Chandiran
Objective
- In the proposed work, we will explore stand-alone H2-genset using fuel cells and the system will be deployed at a site in IIT Madras for analysing their ability to perform in actual field.
Description
- The proposed work consists of two independent, but connected verticals where there will be a green hydrogen generation unit and another power generation unit. The green hydrogen will be generated using water electrolyzer powered by solar energy. The generated hydrogen will be dried, compressed and stored. The power generation unit will contain a fuel cell which will take the hydrogen from first unit and convert it to electricity on demand.
Impact
- D1. Green hydrogen powered H2-genset, D2. The H2-genset integrated with load at a site at IIT Madras, D3. A concept note/white paper on the viability of H2-genset for the replacement of diesel gensets.
