Utilization of Green Ammonia as a Sustainable Energy Source for Decarbonisation of Power Generators in Rural Applications
Principal Investigator
Prof. Mayank Mittal
Objective
- Experimental study on utilization of ammonia as potential fuel for IC engines, Performance, combustion and emission characteristics of dual-fuel CI and gaseous fuelled SI engines with ammonia as fuel (both partial and 100% replacement for methane), Use of non-conventional fuels (NH3/HHO) in combined cycle with combustion of natural gas for reducing the environmental impact, Comparative study on the engine characteristics and operational limits of NH3/CH4/H2/air blends in dual-fuel CI and gaseous fuelled SI engines.
Description
- The proposed research work aims to have in-depth studies in order to generate accurate data related to engine combustion, performance and emission characteristics with ammonia fuel by including dedicated comparative studies on injection technologies and strategies in dual fuel CI and gaseous fueled SI engines.
Impact
- Data generated from the experimental studies on ammonia based combustion in IC engines will pave pathways for development and optimization of automotive ammonia fuel cycle and overcome challenges faced due to limited data in present day scenario, Decarbonisation of power generators in rural applications by utilizing a blend of bio-gas (on-site produced) and green ammonia (electrolytically produced) to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint.
