Objective
- Test the new, improved kilns developed through RuTAG, IITM, on different kinds of feed materials; and facilitate charcoal-based entrepreneurial activities, Expand the product base into kilns for various local livelihood and agricultural needs, Hand-hold kiln fabrication and operations processes through implementation agencies, Conduct capacity-building programmes for kiln handling and strengthen fabrication capabilities through local manpower
Description
- Develop portable cost-effective kilns and test them with various weed species in the region, Upskill local fabricators to produce new improved kiln designs, to enable a microeconomy around kiln production and usage, Set up the value chain for charcoal-based products in the regions this programme is implemented
Impact
- Improved kilns of varying capacities can be adopted at multiple regional scales, including hamlets, This project could encourage people to take up new livelihood options, such as charcoal kiln fabrication and rental, It presents the potential for continuous employment, Charcoal producers are empowered to produce better-quality charcoal using a safer process, and could get better value for their product, Improves the ergonomics of coal production.
