Climate Classroom Initiative: Interactive Simulation-Based Climate Education powered by Climate Action Tool (CAT)
Principal Investigator
Prof. Satyanarayana Seshadri
Objective
- The Climate Classroom Initiative addresses the need for awareness by deploying an online, simulation-based learning platform built on the Climate Action Tool (CAT), a decision-support system for industrial decarbonization developed at IIT Madras.
Description
- India faces an urgent need for a climate-literate generation - engineers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and informed citizens who can translate climate science into action. Students typically are aware of climate change, but they lack exposure to the tools that a) highlight the trade-offs in climate action, and b) systematically explore the cost-benefit equations of climate action. The Climate Classroom Initiative exists to close this gap.
Impact
- School students reached (Year 1): Minimum 500 students across 3 pilot schools., University students reached (Year 1): Minimum 300 students across 5 partner institutions., Teachers trained: Minimum 30 educators in Years 1-2., Platform availability: Free, open-access, publicly hosted - zero-cost for end users., Geographic coverage: Pan-India access via web browser; no installation required.
