Industrial effluent treatment using a 'hybrid PV-Concentrated Solar Power' Tandem reactor system
Principal Investigator
Prof. Tiju Thomas
Objective
- This project proposes a tandem reactor system for wastewater treatment, combining photovoltaic panels and solar concentrators for efficient solar distillation.
Description
- This project aims to design and demonstrate a 2 kW Hybrid PV-Concentrating Solar Power Tandem Reactor system, including a 1 kW photovoltaic system with energy storage and ten dual-axis tracking Heliostats with high-reflectance mirrors. It optimises nanoparticle use, modular effluent treatment, and water purity evaluation to meet the Bureau of Indian Standards. The project will study textile effluent discharge and conduct a Life Cycle assessment for sustainability and cost reduction.
Impact
- This project addresses industrial effluent management, impacting public health, energy, accessibility, and reliability. A hybrid CSP and PV approach offers cost-effective, energy-efficient solutions for various industries. It fosters technological leadership, economic opportunities, and social and environmental benefits, promoting sustainable industrial wastewater treatment.
