Objective
- Mangrove afforestation and habitat restoration., Developing place-based carbon framework for leveraging biodiversity credits & carbon benefits., Augmenting adaptive advantages at community-ecosystem interface from mangrove habitat restoration.
Description
- Coastal ecosystems can capture and accumulate substantial stocks of carbon (C), popularly known as 'blue C' that persists for millennia. In totality, blue C encompasses the C stored in mangroves. The total blue C (TBC) components are ascertained by aggregating all these conceivable organic C. They are not only vital for the conservation of biodiversity but also for human well-being by bestowing varied benefits in addition to pronounced ecosystem services. A comprehensive approach has been lacking and that there is a need for the development of a holistic model concerning the estimation of TBC accounting.
Impact
- Demonstrable carbon farming model in mangrove ecosystem based on carbon scenario planning elevates global investment potential and carbon partnership in vulnerable coastal belts of India with empirical evidences and stakeholders' preparedness.
