Banana Peel Nano Fertilizer CSR Project for Sustainable Agriculture

Effect of Phosphorus-Doped Carbon Dots from Banana Peels for the Growth and Development of Plants

Effect of Phosphorus-Doped Carbon Dots from Banana Peels for the Growth and Development of Plants

Principal Investigator

Prof. Smita Srivastava

Objective

  • This project focuses on the synthesis, characterization, stability, and application of phosphorus-doped carbon dots (PCDs) derived from banana peels to enhance plant growth and development.

Description

  • Agricultural productivity is increasingly constrained by nutrient-deficient soils, particularly phosphorus and potassium depletion, which are vital for plant growth and development. Conventional fertilizers, while commonly applied, often suffer from poor nutrient-use efficiency resulting in yield losses and environmental degradation. In this study, PCDs will be synthesized from banana peels using a microwave-assisted method, which is rapid, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly.

Impact

  • 1. Development of a sustainable method for synthesizing nutrient-rich PCDs from banana peels. 2. Establishment of PCD stability profiles under varying conditions. 3. Demonstration of PCDs as efficient nano-fertilizers enhancing plant growth. 4. Validation of PCDs as supplements in plant tissue culture media.
