Principal Investigator
Prof. Satyanarayana Seshadri
Objective
- At the very apex, this project contributes to the achievement of the following five UNSDGs: - SDG 13: Climate Action, - SDG 2: Zero Hunger, - SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth (empowering small-scale dairy farmers), - SDG 5: Gender Equality, - SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Description
- The traditional form of agriculture today suffers from several inefficiencies. With production of around 146 million MT, India is the largest producer of milk globally. Being primarily a rural-driven sector, dairy farming in India plays a crucial role in supporting rural livelihoods. Thus, reducing the carbon footprint in tandem with greening the dairy sector is key in India's battle toward combating climate change.
Impact
- Create a Net-Zero Energy Micro-Dairy Facility, Implement Sustainable Agricultural Practices, Enhance Livelihoods and Empower Women, Strengthen Food Security through Increased Milk Production, Reduce Water consumption by 50%, Contemporary Technology Adoption, Implement an Integrated Approach, Enhance Milk Quality, Increase crop yields by 20%, Reduce chemical fertilizer use by 25%, Create an ideal 'Concept' to Emulate for the Future
