Net Zero Milk CSR: Solar Powered Micro Dairy and Biogas Utilisation

Net Zero Milk - A Micro Dairy Approach

Net Zero Milk - A Micro Dairy Approach

Principal Investigator

Prof. Satyanarayana Seshadri

Objective

  • This intervention by IIT Madras involves setting up of 'milk processing unit' and allied implements that can add value to the processed milk.

Description

  • The biggest contributor to methane emissions and GHG impact of methane emissions from dairy waste, particularly dairy waste. A potential solution to this problem is usage of bio-gas generator and Compressed Biogas (CBG) unit. CBG can be used as an alternative to CNG in vehicles including tractors. It can also be used for cooking and such applications, further improving the micro-dairy farm economics.

Impact

  • A detailed techno-economic and operational model will be developed for scaling the implementation of a solarized and containerized micro dairy as a part of the deliverable from this project.
