Center for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Excellence
Principal Investigator
Prof. Rupsa Bhattacharjee
Objective
- We request support for the procurement or donation of a state-of-the-art high-performance 3.0T MRI scanner for the Department of Medical Sciences & Technology, at IIT Madras, for human imaging (Neuro, Musculoskeletal, Oncologic, Aging, Sports Health, and Whole-Body Research), advancing Quantitative Imaging, Biomarker Discovery, and India's Next-Generation Imaging Workforce.
Description
- While MRI scanners in hospitals are optimized for clinical throughput and routine patient care, they cannot support the experimental, high-resolution, multi-anatomy, and quantitative imaging protocols required for modern scientific research., IIT Madras, uniquely positioned at the intersection of engineering, medicine, imaging science, and AI, requires a dedicated research-grade MRI scanner to build a world-class ecosystem for discovery and innovation., Our model aligns with leading international institutions, including MIT, Stanford, UCLA, and Harvard Medical School, where medical imaging research thrives within engineering campuses, rather than clinical hospitals.
Impact
- Musculoskeletal Science & Mechanistic Aging Research., Cognitive & Neuroimaging Research Across the Lifespan., Healthy Aging, Metabolic & Longitudinal Cohort Science., Oncologic & Whole-Body Research., A Multidisciplinary Engine for Discovery.
