Affordable early diagnosis of pregnancy-induced hypertension
Principal Investigator
Prof. Raghavendra Sai VV
Objective
- The project aims to develop an affordable technology for early diagnosis of Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH), thereby save the lives of mother and child from the life-threatening premature labour before 30th week of pregnancy.
Description
- Plasmonic fiberoptic absorbance biosensor (P-FAB) is already established by our team to detect disease biomarkers down to a few hundred molecules in a drop. P-FAB meets the sensitivity requirement for detection PIH biomarkers., After lab-based testing of the P-FAB devices, with serum we are planning to go for clinical blood sample testing in collaboration with hospitals with a few hundred samples from April 2023 and subsequently large numbers over the next 6 months., The support will meet the expenses towards the fabrication of required number of devices and probes, the high consumable costs and logistics.
Impact
- Early diagnosis of PIH at around 13 weeks enables effective intervention that decreases the incidence of PIH by 62%., A simple and affordable test using the proposed device would help in early diagnosis of PIH.
