Genomics, Screening, Early Detection, and Novel Drug Targets Towards Personalized Therapy for Cervical Cancer CSR Proposal

Genomics, Screening, early detection and novel drug targets towards personalized therapy for Cervical Cancer

Genomics, Screening, early detection and novel drug targets towards personalized therapy for Cervical Cancer

Principal Investigator

Prof. S. Mahalingam

Objective

  • Whole genome and transcriptome sequencing of cervical cancer tissue samples from Indian cohorts., Data analysis and identification of biomakers for early detection, treatment responses and drug targets for novel anti-cancer therapeutics., Identification of inter- and intra-tumour heterogeneity of cervical cancer and develop the biomarker panels for treatment response., Initiate the cancer awareness program.

Description

  • The proposal aims to address the national challenges posed by cervical cancer by building an Indian patient-specific genomic database., It holds great promise in identifying new treatment strategies and predict patient responses to existing treatment modalities., Identification of cervical cancer genomic landscape and development of cancer genomic database specific to Indian population will help us to be part of International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC).

Impact

  • First step to develop an India-specific cancer genome database., Great impact on population-based cancer screening, early detection, etc., High impact on new forms of therapies for cancer., Ensure the continuity and sustainability to maintain the cancer genomic database.
