Description
- Currently, India lacks a dedicated, independent testing and certification facility focused specifically on athlete nutrition and sports supplements. As a result, athletes often rely on products whose quality, safety, and compliance with anti-doping requirements cannot be independently verified. To address this critical gap, IIT Madras proposes the establishment of the FAST Lab (Food & Supplement Testing Laboratory) under the Centre of Excellence on Sports Science and Analytics (CESSA). The FAST Lab will be India’s first dedicated testing, validation, and certification facility for sports nutrition products, supplements, and functional foods.
Impact
- For athletes, reduced risk of consuming contaminated products, greater confidence in nutritional supplements, and enhanced compliance with anti-doping requirements, For the sports ecosystem, improved quality standards across the sector, a trusted certification framework, and strengthened integrity of sports nutrition products, For industry, access to world-class testing infrastructure, enhanced product credibility, and improved competitiveness in domestic and international markets, For society, promotion of safe nutritional practices, advancement of scientific research and innovation, and support for India's sporting excellence agenda, A first-of-its-kind national asset that promotes athlete safety, scientific excellence, and industry accountability, A self-sustaining national facility, with operational sustainability achieved through testing services, certification programs, industry partnerships, research grants and sponsored projects, and training and capacity-building activities
