Description
- The aim of the project is to identify genetic variants in candidate genes in the Indian population and carry out functional analysis to establish their causal role in disease pathogenesis, across healthy control, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes subjects.
Impact
- This project will identify genetic variants as novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes, Development of early biomarkers prior to the onset of type 2 diabetes will be valuable for better clinical management of diabetes and related disease conditions, Early identification of human subjects at the pre-diabetes stage, that is, before they develop type 2 diabetes, will benefit millions of people in India as well as other countries, Better clinical management through early identification of diabetic patients, addressing the end-organ damage to kidney, retina and heart that is often already present by the time of diagnosis
