A Metabolomics facility for Natural product research in Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Management
Principal Investigator
Prof. Smita Srivastava
Objective
- Establish a state-of-the-art metabolomics facility at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, dedicated to advancing natural product research in cancer and cardiovascular disease management. The facility aims to integrate ethno-pharmacological knowledge, phytochemical analysis, and bioprocesses to generate therapeutically relevant anti-cancer and anti-CVD active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) through qualitative and quantitative metabolite profiling.
Description
- Integration of ethno-pharmacological knowledge, phytochemical analysis, and cell culture-based bioprocesses., Conduct in silico, in vitro, and in vivo assays for anti-cancer and anti-CVD API generation., Facility open to IIT Madras researchers, academia, industry collaborations, conferences, workshops, and training programs., Promote research-to-market transition for leads obtained in academic research.
Impact
- The metabolomics facility will significantly advance natural product-based drug discovery for cancer and cardiovascular disease applications. It will lead to high-impact international journal publications, establish IIT Madras as a global leader in natural product research, foster academic collaborations, generate intellectual property for licensing to industry, and facilitate industry collaborations in the field of natural product research.
