Development of new-generation brazed superabrasive tools and its manufacturing technologies

Development of new-generation brazed superabrasive tools and its manufacturing technologies

Principal Investigator

Prof. Amitava Ghosh

Objective

  • This proposal seeks support for the development of next-generation brazed superabrasive tools and their manufacturing technologies. The project aims to address current limitations in the brazing technique, grit placement, and uniformity. Its primary objectives include creating high-performance grinding tools, establishing an indigenous test rig, and facilitating technology transfer to the machining and grinding industries.

Description

  • 1. Develop advanced brazing technology for high Material Removal Rate (MRR) grinding tools., 2. Design an indigenous test rig for testing larger diameter wheels at high cutting speeds., 3. Focus on improving grit placement and bond strength., 4. Seek collaboration with industrial partners for tool comparison and technology transfer.

Impact

  • This project has the potential to revolutionize the grinding industry by developing high-performance grinding tools with improved grit distribution and bond strength. It aims to benefit grinding tool manufacturers, machine tool manufacturers, and automation industries. The establishment of an indigenous test rig and collaboration with industrial partners will further enhance the impact, potentially leading to technology transfer and industry-wide adoption.
