Seismic Stability of Reinforced Earth Walls Using Construction & Demolition Waste

Seismic stability of reinforced earth walls using construction & demolition waste as reinforced backfill

Seismic stability of reinforced earth walls using construction & demolition waste as reinforced backfill

Principal Investigator

Prof. Sougata Mukherjee & Surender Singh

Objective

  • Evaluate the feasibility of using processed construction and demolition (C&D) waste as reinforced backfill in reinforced earth (RE) walls and develop design guidelines for long-term static and seismic stability.

Description

  • The project investigates the seismic performance of reinforced earth walls using recycled C&D waste as backfill through laboratory experiments and shaking table tests, aiming to establish safe and sustainable design practices.

Impact

  • Promotes sustainable construction by reducing C&D waste disposal, conserving natural resources, lowering construction costs, and supporting the circular economy.

Duration

12–18 months
