Objective

  • This proposal specifically aims to explore the use of Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA) in RCCP by investigating their influence on fresh and hardened properties, compaction behavior, strength development, and durability performance.

Description

  • Rapid urbanization has led to the generation of enormous quantities of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, exceeding 1 billion tons annually in India, much of which is landfilled, causing significant environmental impacts. Roller Compacted Concrete Pavement (RCCP) presents a resource-efficient alternative to conventional pavements due to its low cement and water demand, elimination of steel reinforcement, rapid construction, and lower carbon footprint compared to Pavement Quality Concrete. This proposal specifically aims to explore the use of Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA) in RCCP by investigating their influence on fresh and hardened properties, compaction behavior, strength development, and durability performance.

Impact

  • The integration of RCA in RCCP will enable effective valorization of C&D waste, conservation of natural aggregates, and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the development of durable, low-carbon pavement infrastructure aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 13 (Climate Action).
