Objective
- The project aims at show casing the restoration of one set of cascading lake systems connecting to the Pallikaranai marsh land., The ongoing works on Siruseri and Sembakkam lakes can be complemented by choosing lakes in the same water shed.
Description
- Urban sprawl due to unplanned development of the Special economic zones has seriously hampered the ecosystems South of Chennai., Lack of adequate water, wastewater and solid waste infrastructure has resulted in deterioration of surface and groundwater resources in quality and quantity., Rejuvenating and maintaining these water bodies would be vital to the sustainability of this region which is growing very rapidly.
Impact
- The target groups of the intervention are people such as employees, residents and visitors of the South Chennai region., The direct impacts would be groundwater recharge and flood mitigation., Natural purification of water as a saving on water treatment costs., creation of ecological niches as a trigger to biological diversity serving local fishery to recreation.
