Objective
- Environmental surveillance of emerging viruses using wastewater., Identification of infection hotspots., Understanding the temporal and seasonal variability in the environmental occurrence of viruses.
Description
- Respiratory infections, including COVID-19, contribute significantly to the Global Disease Burden and they represent important public health issues of the world. Routine environmental surveillance of emerging viruses is essential to ensure human safety. With the proposed instrumental facilities, we will be in a position to monitor virus infections rapidly in communities.
Impact
- Create a fast, economical, and practical surveillance system to effectively monitor circulating emerging viruses in the environment., Establish an early warning system in India to better manage emerging and re-emerging infections., Environmental monitoring at multiple sites will provide more comprehensive datasets, strengthen early warning capabilities, and help to identify hotspots.
