Objective
- The International Centre for Clean Water (ICCW) has been setup as a non-profit society under the aegis of IIT Madras to ideate, nurture, develop and implement clean water technologies to make India water secure., Our vision is to provide sustainable "clean water for all" and our mission is to ideate, nurture, develop and translate sustainable technologies for clean water.
Description
- According to the reports published by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS), out of the total 17,13,303 habitations in India, 1,76,177 were found to be contaminated, as per lab tests conducted during FY 2015-16. This accounts for 10.28% of all habitations being affected by poor water quality., A solution to aforementioned problem is to build a Setup for a Water Smart Village. This can be done by equipping a model village with facilities such as: a local water treatment facility, equipped with features such as RFID card, etc.
Impact
- A water smart village with the following facilities: Availability of clean drinking water to the community at an affordable price, Keeping Hardness, Nitrate and Fluoride contaminants in drinking water within safe limits., Ensuring the sustainability and security of water sources through regular monitoring approaches., Availability of IoT-based dashboards for real-time monitoring of the water treatment facility., Deployment of mobile water quality monitoring and geotagging facility for the identification of safe drinking water sources.
