IDBI Bank – IIT Madras Secure Systems Lab (I2SSL)

The partnership between IDBI Bank and the Secure Systems Lab at IIT Madras is a corporate social responsibility initiative focused on advancing research in cybersecurity, secure computing, and digital trust. The collaboration supports the development of technologies and research infrastructure that strengthen the security and reliability of digital systems used across sectors such as banking, public services, and digital identity platforms.

Through this initiative, the Secure Systems Lab conducts research in areas such as secure authentication systems, trusted processor architectures, malware analysis, and automated security evaluation. The program also promotes education, knowledge sharing, and community engagement in cybersecurity through workshops, events, and collaborative platforms.

Research Initiatives

The program supports multiple research initiatives aimed at strengthening cybersecurity and secure computing systems. One key effort focuses on enhancing Aadhaar-linked biometric authentication by integrating blockchain technology to create a tamper-resistant and privacy-protected framework for digital identity verification.

Another initiative works on designing secure processor architectures that protect applications even if the operating system is compromised. In this approach, application code remains encrypted in memory and is decrypted only during execution, helping safeguard sensitive data while maintaining normal system functionality.

The program also develops a platform for malware analysis and data collection, enabling researchers to study malicious software behavior and improve threat detection and prevention strategies.

Additionally, the initiative supports the development of automated tools that help evaluate software systems for potential security vulnerabilities, promoting stronger security practices and improving overall software reliability.

Education and Outreach

In addition to research activities, the initiative actively supports education and community engagement in cybersecurity. The Secure Systems Lab organizes events, workshops, and discussions that bring together researchers, students, and industry experts to share knowledge and explore emerging security challenges.

Activities conducted under this program include technical workshops on topics such as blockchain technologies, discussions on resilient and secure autonomous systems, and cybersecurity puzzle challenges designed to engage and educate students. The initiative also supports conferences, hackathons, and collaborative platforms that encourage innovation and practical problem-solving in cybersecurity.

These events provide valuable opportunities for students and researchers to interact with experts, gain exposure to real-world security challenges, and develop practical skills in secure system design and analysis.

Broader Impact

The IDBI Bank – IIT Madras Secure Systems Lab initiative highlights the role of corporate social responsibility in supporting advanced research that benefits society. By investing in secure computing technologies and cybersecurity education, the program contributes to strengthening digital trust and protecting critical digital infrastructure.

The collaboration not only advances technological research but also helps develop the next generation of cybersecurity professionals through hands-on learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and knowledge sharing. Overall, the initiative demonstrates how industry–academic partnerships can drive innovation and create solutions that enhance the security and resilience of modern digital ecosystems.
