Research anatomy lab set up at IIT Madras under PFC's CSR initiative

Cutting-Edge Facility at IIT Madras:

The laboratory is designed to utilize and develop advanced technologies for effective teaching and learning, particularly for the innovative BS degree programme in Medical Sciences & Engineering. This facility represents a pioneering step in integrating high-tech methods into undergraduate medical education.

New Delhi: Parminder Chopra, CMD, Power Finance Corporation (PFC), on Tuesday inaugurated a state-of-the-art anatomy laboratory at the Department of Medical Sciences and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras). Supported by a CSR grant of ₹16.5 crore from PFC, this advanced facility marks a significant milestone in medical education and research in India.

Parminder Chopra, CMD, PFC, remarked:

Key Features of the PFC-Supported Anatomy Laboratory

Advanced Learning Environment:
The lab is designed to leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance teaching and learning, especially for the BS programme in Medical Sciences & Engineering. It introduces a modern, technology-driven approach to undergraduate medical education.

First of Its Kind in India:
IIT Madras has established a dry anatomy lab that meets medical college standards. This facility provides a unique, hands-on learning experience in anatomy, a discipline traditionally dependent on conventional methods.

Promoting Innovation:
The facility is expected to inspire students to develop innovative and disruptive product ideas. Exposure to this advanced lab will encourage the creation of indigenous medical technologies, reducing dependence on imports and supporting India’s self-reliance in healthcare.

The laboratory was inaugurated in the presence of Manoj Sharma, Director (Commercial), PFC; Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras; Ali Shah, Executive Director (CSR); Prof. R. Krishna Kumar, Institute Professor; Prof. Boby George, Head of the Department of Medical Sciences & Technology; Prof. Ashwin Mahalingam, Dean-Designate (Alumni and Corporate Relations); Kaviraj Nair (OIA); and other officials from PFC.
